Wild’s Suter out for remainder of season with ankle injury

The Minnesota Wild will have to push through the playoffs without their top defenseman, as the team officially announced Monday night that Ryan Suter requires surgery on his fractured right ankle and will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Suter suffered the injury when he awkwardly crashed into the boards during the second period of a 4-1 loss to Dallas on Saturday.

Minnesota will turn to a few youngsters to hold down the blue line, including Minnesota-Duluth product Carson Soucy, who was recalled over the weekend. With Jared Spurgeon and Gustav Olofsson recovering from their own injuries, Matt Dumba and Jonas Brodin will be the Wild’s top-line defensemen.
